The ILS-St.Gallen is an accredited examination institution for fide-Test and conducts the fide-Test at CEFR levels A1 to B1. With the fide-Test you can prove your oral and written language skills in German, French and Italian. fide-Test A1, A2, B1.

Description fide-Test:

The fide-Test was initiated by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and is recognized throughout Switzerland. You can use it with the authorities to extend your residence permit, when registering for further training or when looking for a job in your application documents.

With the fide-Test measures oral and written language skills separately. The fide-Test consists of a "speaking and understanding" part and a "reading and writing" part. You can either take both parts (speaking / understanding and reading / writing) or just one part (speaking / understanding or reading / writing).

The fide-Test is not an ordinary exam with grades. You do not receive a "pass" or "fail" as a result, but rather the CEFR level (A1, A2 or B1) achieved in the various skills, depending on the skills you have demonstrated and your tested language skills (German, French or Italian).

Registration fide-Test in St.Gallen:

The number of places on the fide tests at our language school ILS-St.Gallen is limited. Please register early using the registration form or directly with us on site.
The respective registration deadline can be found in the table "fide-Test dates & registration deadlines".

Please note that the examination fees must be paid in full by the day of the examination at the latest. Otherwise the participant will be excluded from the examination.

Deregistration fide-Test:

Cancellations up to 20 days before the first day of the examination are free of charge. Cancellations less than 20 days before the start of the examination must be paid in full.

fide-Test results:

Graduates receive the results after approx. 4 weeks by post directly from the 'fide office' in 3008 Bern.

The processing time for tests taking place between December 9, 2024 and January 25, 2025 may take slightly longer. Accordingly, the issuing of language passports may take up to 6 weeks instead of the usual 4 weeks after the test date.

Preparation courses for the fide-Test:

Prepare for the fide-Test at the ILS-St.Gallen: Attend a preparation course for the fide-Test in private or group lessons at the ILS-St.Gallen.

fide-Test duration:

Speaking and understanding: Approx. 40 min.
Reading and writing: Approx. 65 min.

The fide-Test takes place once a week: On Friday. Participants must receive the invitation at least 10 days in advance.

fide-Test costs:

Complete fide-Test: CHF 250.
Oral part fide-Test (speaking and comprehension): CHF 170.-
Written part fide-Test (reading and writing): CHF 120.-

Our language tutors are carefully selected by going through a long process and having to pass special exams. We can therefore say with confidence that our tutors are very familiar with the subject matter and the current syllabus, so that our courses in preparation for the fide-Test and our learning materials are always adapted to the latest fide tests.

The fide-Test was developed on behalf of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM). You can have your German language skills certified with the fide-Test . The test tasks relate to German levels A1 - B1 and are based on various everyday situations such as at work, a visit to the doctor, shopping or at the local council. The fide-Test is divided into two parts; an oral part (speaking and understanding) and a written part (reading and writing).

The fide-Test is permitted for all persons aged 16 and over.

People with a disability can also take the fide-Test . Special rules apply to them, which are agreed with the testing institution and the fide office.

You can contact one of our ILS International Langue Schools directly or register via the registration form. When registering for the fide-Test , you can choose between the whole part (oral and written) or just one of the exam parts (oral or written).

IMPORTANT: The number of places is limited. Please register early!

The entire test (oral and written) costs CHF 250.

Only the oral part (speaking and understanding) costs CHF 170.

Only the written part (reading and writing) costs CHF 120.

The oral part lasts 40 minutes, the written part 60 minutes.

The fide-Test takes place once a week: On Friday. Participants are usually informed of the exact test times 1-2 weeks before the test date.

You will receive your fide-Test directly by post approx. 4 weeks after taking the fide-Test . Unfortunately, no information regarding the test results can be given over the phone.

At our ILS Language Center St. Gallen, we prepare you for the fide-Test in a targeted and successful manner. In addition to the group preparation courses for the fide-Test (in groups of two or three), you are also welcome to book effective individual lessons in our exam preparation course for the fide-Test , which you can take as a private course at our ILS Language Center St. Gallen. With the private course for the fide-Test , you benefit from class time, especially when it comes to masses. Your language teacher will focus solely on you and you can set your own individual priorities in the various subject areas.
